Continue ReadingOn Wednesday, five-star forward Jaren Jackson Jr. was looking forward to his birthday the following day but maybe more so he was looking forward to his commitment. On Thursday, he made his commitment picking the Michigan State Spartans over a host of other high-major programs.
It was a bit of a surprise as leading up to the day rumors were swirling that Maryland could be the destination. Purdue was also high up on his list. The list was already cut down to those three schools along with Notre Dame and Georgetown. However, at the beginning of his birthday, Jackson chose the Michigan State Spartans.
Ultimately, this could go a long way into helping his long term stock. Jackson, at 6’11, is a premium face-up four who can shoot it from all over the floor. He’s also very good on the defensive end as a shot blocker and rebounder. The area he needs to pick up is really his mentality. He’s a very smart, cerebral guy but does more with finesse. Michigan State isn’t a finesse team which in a lot of ways could help to draw the most out of Jaren as he develops within their program over the next few years.
Jackson saw his interest from the best programs in the country rise over the last six months as he had an outstanding summer with Spiece Indy Heat. That was just the first move he has made. The second move was from Park Tudor to La Lumiere. It will help in his level of competition over the next year. Jackson might be the first domino to fall as other top 2017 prospects are close to a commitment. Expect decision in the coming month from Paul Scruggs and Kris Wilkes.
