What does Ethan Chargois bring to SMU?
Tonight Ethan Chargois announced his commitment to SMU. Chargois joins an already great class for the Mustangs, which includes Tulsa Central Point Guard Elijah Landrum. SMU could have four players from Oklahoma on their roster if Shake Milton comes back for his junior year.
So what does Ethan Chargois bring to SMU? Chargois is a 6’8 Post that does a great job of rebounding the basketball in the paint. He has the ability to score on the block, but has developed into a player that can shoot from the perimeter. Chargois has struggled with injuries and staying in shape as of late. But even coming off a foot injury he played well this summer with Team Griffin on the NIKE EYBL Circuit.
Chargois at one time was in several national rankings. I believe Chargois will be a steal when we look back at the 2017 Class. He will have a chance to play right away at SMU and make an instant impact.
With the decision to attend SMU Chargois has followed the Shake Milton path who began the Oklahoma connection to SMU two years ago. Since Milton chose SMU three other Oklahoma prospects have committed (Dashawn McDowell, Elijah Landrum and Ethan Chargois). Milton was a standout at Owasso and was considered the best player in his class in Oklahoma. Chargois is ranked the third overall player in Oklahoma.

SMU has landed a cornerstone piece in the paint that will allow them to have Chargois play the four or the five. The versatility of Chargois will be huge for SMU. Over his career at SMU Chargois will have the chance to make his mark. Fans of Chargois will get to see him play at least once per year in Oklahoma as SMU always plays Tulsa on the road each year.
Chargois is a player with tons of upside to his game. SMU has done a great job dominating the recruiting landscape in Oklahoma. The addition of Chargois will help SMU continue their recent success.
