Arizona Top 250 Expo: Second Team
There were plenty of outstanding performers this past weekend. Here is a list of who made second team honors.
Andrew Leonard (Cienega 2017) – Leonard was very impressive as he conducted things and consistently got his teammates the ball in prime scoring position. Although he is a natural distributor, he also showed that he can score the ball well. There were sequences when he had eight to ten points in a row, including some highlight moves that left defenders looking foolish. Watching him play with Logan Matulis on the wing and seeing the one-two punch showed a glimpse of what Cienega will; have with Leonard and Jordan Green.
David Exline (Mesquite 2018) – Exline is a strong wing with excellent shooting ability. He used his size to get into the middle of the lane, where he was able to finish with regularity. He showed improved quickness and confidence in his ball handling, and consistently knocked down open perimeter shots while spotting up. Having him and Xavier Dussell be versatile floor spacers will give Jaden Lee open lanes to the basket.
Tre Mitchell (La Joya 2017) – Tre Mitchell is a long, athletic guard that competes at a high level. While he is offensively skilled, his best attribute may be his high motor. He got after it this weekend on the defensive end, which led to fast break layups and dunks. He has the length and athleticism to play at the collegiate level.
Cody Carmichael (Ironwood 2017) – Cody is what you want in a point guard. He is a high IQ player that is only concerned with winning. Cody made the right play seemingly every time he touched the ball, whether it meant he shot five times in a row, or didn’t shoot for ten minutes. He is quick and crafty enough to get into the lane, and the pick and roll combination of he and Geoff Hibbitt will be very formidable this year at Ironwood.
Grant Greabell (Estrella Foothills 2018) – Grant was one of the most effective players in attendance, as he has a knack for making plays. Capable of being a high volume scorer, he keyed runs for his team in the games. However, he really impressed in the drill stations, showing a high level of versatility in his skill set. Greabell can shoot, handle the ball, pass, is deceptively athletic, and knows where to be on the floor without the ball.
