What does Adrian Rodriguez bring to UTSA?
Tonight Union Forward Adrian Rodriguez committed to UTSA. He makes the second player from Oklahoma in the last two years to commit to UTSA. Two years ago it was Tulsa Memorial Post AJ Cockrell who pledged his commitment.
Rodriguez was overlooked for most of his high school career. The knock on Rodriguez was always “he is to short.” But this summer playing against elite level competition with Oklahoma Run PWP on the Under Armour Circuit Rodriguez showed just how special he is at the four. Rodriguez outworked bigger player in the post on the boards. Even when the players Rodriguez was facing were 7′ he still held his own on the boards due to his work ethic.
Some have compared him in ways to Oklahoma product Ryan Spangler. Rodriguez is not as talented as Spangler, but certainly has a similar work ethic. Dominating the boards is not all Rodriguez will bring to the table for UTSA. At the four Rodriguez is quick and will create matchup nightmares for opponents.

Over the past two years Rodriguez has developed a mid-range and three-point jumper. The jump shot of Rodriguez has taken his game to another level. UTSA is getting an all-around four man that is slightly undersized, but makes up for what he lacks in height with toughness, handwork and determination.
Rodriguez was recruited by assistant Scott Thompson who has strong Oklahoma ties. It should also be noted Steve Henson the new head coach at UTSA was on staff at Oklahoma before taking the job this year. Rodriguez will have a chance to impact the UTSA program tremendously from the second he steps on campus. The energy Rodriguez plays with is infectious.
UTSA landed a steal with Rodriguez’s growing skill set at the four. He fits perfectly into the system UTSA is looking to run.
