The event attracted some of the best talent in the area, which culminated in a day of strong and competitive play. Below is a brief break down of a few players whose performances stood out.
Leland Richardson – 6’5 Heritage High School
Sprinting the floor on every fast break opportunity, Richardson used his athleticism to his advantage and on multiple occasions showed off some highlight finishes. The fearless wing attacked the basket with an explosive first step and had little problem putting the ball in the basket over bigger post players. He brought that same attacking mentality to the boards by relentlessly tracking down missed shots and snatching rebounds well out of his area.
Malik Morrow- 6’0 Cape Henry
Morrow had one of the most dominant performances of the camp as he seemingly scored at will from the top of the key. His skill with the ball was on full display as he exploded out of the dribble and bullied his way through the lane. Using a combination of strength and finesse he exhibited an array of tough moves in the paint and looked comfortable finishing on both sides of the rim.
Bryan Phillips -5’10 Maury High School
Phillips inserted himself into the role of floor general as he found a nice balance between scoring and distributing the ball. Receiving the ball in the outlet he worked his way to the middle of the floor from where he consistently delivered the ball to his streaking wings. As the tempo slowed, he proved to be a steady ball handler by attacking the gaps with purpose and working his was through traffic for the bucket.
Tragen Fahl – 6’8 Atlantic Shores
The springy big man worked hard to establish his presence on both ends of the court. Moving well off the ball, he was often on the receiving end of quick dump-offs from the guards, which he turned into powerful two handed dunks. As the defense caught on and stopped helping, he counted by stepping out of the lane and knocking down some short jumpers. Fahl also showed promise as a shot blocker, quickly reacting and stretching out to protect the rim.
Izaiah James- 6’2 Cape Henry
James set himself apart with a non-stop motor that he took to both sides of the ball. The scrappy guard hounded ball handlers throughout the day and at times was able to turn the opposing PGs multiple times in the open court. He had the same tenacious pace with the ball in hands as he constantly looked for open driving lanes and scoring opportunities. As the camp went on, James showed multiple dimensions to his offense by cashing in on open looks from deep and having equal success shooting off the dribble.
