Bailey Basala (North Scott)
New Ranking: 4
Previous Ranking: 8
Why? There were lots of guys who were vying for Division I offers this summer, and Basala was the big winner in Iowa. He went from zero to eight D1 offers in a hurry….and still counting.
Dawson Jones (Johnston)
New Ranking: 12
Previous Ranking: 38
Why? Jones picked up an offer from Air Force in July, and is one of just nine guys in 2017 who had or have D1 offers. So, ya… 38 was way too low.
Solomon Clayton (Fort Dodge)
New Ranking: 30
Previous Ranking: 79
Why? He’s a young man on a mission, and that’s to wreck-shop every time he’s on the floor. It didn’t matter if he was playing with AFES, Fort Dodge, or the Cornsharks, he was beastly this summer.
Drew Johnson (Waukee)
New Ranking: 37
Previous Ranking: 54
Why? Johnson was sterling while running the show for Waukee at the Urbandale Team Camp in June. And he’s got a Grand View offer to show for it
Ben Dentlinger (New London)
New Ranking: 39
Previous Ranking: 58
Why? He’s 6-foot-5 with nice length and plays on the wing. We’re thinking it won’t be long before he’s got a couple NAIA or Division II offers.
Trevor Miller (Urbandale)
New Ranking: 64
Previous Ranking: 118
Why? It seemed like each time we saw him — whether with the ‘Sharks or Urbandale — he was his team’s leading scorer. When you’re 6-foot-6, can shoot from anywhere and have great length, that’ll happen.
Jake Eilers (Cedar Rapids Prairie)
New Ranking: 83
Previous Ranking: 164
Why? Eilers was a big story for us in the spring, he showed vast improvements and it appeared to stem from some added confidence. He and Max Smith-Drahos could put CR Prairie hoops on the map this winter.
Dariq Myles (Des Moines North)
New Ranking: 91
Previous Ranking: 124
Why? He’s the Draymond Green of Iowa high school basketball. Big enough to bang down low, and skilled enough to be dangerous from deep. Myles is one of many reasons why the Polar Bears should be considered threats to make it to “The Well” next March.
