This is how this works. We are going to list a select group of kids and list where there stock is now and where it rose up from (ABC order). Here we go….
Weston Baker Magrath. WBM was a certain top NSIC guy who plays in explosive ways but now he has a D1 offer from UND and has showed that he can consistently score in the post turning over a shoulder and touching in.
Dedoch Chan. I thought Dedoch was outstanding with Powerhouse MN in the games I saw and in the games I saw stats for he was just as good. Also played well for JM last weekend at Breakdown State so he’s a player to keep an eye on.
CJ Dickson. This winter Dickson was a quality defender for the Islanders. In the spring he did a little more scoring in a secondary role for Select. But when the Select squad needed more point production because of injury and absence it was Dickson that did so plus always gave his defensive efforts.
Ishmael El-Amin. Not sure why teams stopped following him close in the spring (save UWGB) but Ishmael’s outstanding play in transition, attacking, hitting at a rate of 43 percent at the arc, and playing some at both guard spots has him getting D1 offers again.
Chase Grinde. Chase just led Spring Grove over Minneapolis North playing the role of lead guard, three point weapon, attacking option that constantly got results versus good athletes, and late game clutch player. Did the same for the Minnesota Heat and that is why the NSIC is on him more.
Kade Hart. Kade had a quieter spring but a very strong July which led him from being an NAIA recruit to a Bemidji State committed big. Rebounded and defended well and showed off a better touch than people understood.
Michael Jones. The Woodbury player was a nice talent as a sophomore for the Royals, but after consistently leading one of the state’s best 16U teams to good results he should be a key force and a leader for the Royals this winter playing many roles.
Rocky Kreuser. The Totino-Grace/Fury Kallman four-man joined his summer teammates on a great ride that started (summer wise) with a state tournament title, a GPA title, and kept going into many D2 offers and then a D1 offer from North Dakota State this week.
Wendell Matthews. He was a raw big for the Minnesota Heat when things started in April, now Matthews is a player that we are going to keep a winter eye on as a junior because he’s flashed a lot of potential and has become more consistent.
Daniel Oturo. At the start of the month there was a UNI offer. At the end of the month the constantly growing 2018 big had six high major offers and we are now talking about a top 100 player. Oturo has made himself a national name.
Michael Schaefer. The St. Cloud talent led Powerhouse MN 16U in scoring and rebounding, was a high percentage shooter at the arc, and a guy that his team could depend on for points every night. Schaefer was thought of as a guy likely to get some D2 interest, now some D1s are calling.
Jericho Sims. The national standout has gone from a ranked kid and a several major conference offered guy to a top 100 prospect in the nation now getting offers and interest from some of the best. Sims went at some of the best in the nation inside and matched what his opponents did.
Brian Smith. The Champlin Park guard was previously the undersized shooting guard that could hit some shots but he became in July the most dependable scorer for Minnesota Select who had some huge games including 36 in a Las Vegas win.
Mitchell Sueker. In the spring Mitchell was a player coming off a bad injury and wasn’t in the playing shape he wanted to be so his agility, skill, and strength weren’t what he wanted. In July Sueker was a starter for the team and was on the floor late because he’s trusted, tough, and defends. Offers keep coming in.
Jarvis Thomas. The Orono big went from a guy that could jump, block shots, and rebound, to a guy that did those things AND played his butt off every game. Once he started playing with a constant high level of effort the offers and interest flooded. People were waiting for it, and they got it this July.
Derek Thompson. Thompson always gave solid effort defensively but in July he was counted on for that, more rebounding, and he became a confident scorer moving off screens to finish and hitting short jumpers facing the rim. Grabbed three NSIC offers and committed to Bemidji State and a month ago he had no offers.
CJ Woda. The Heritage Christian talent went from a guy that UMAC schools all thought they could land to a guy that will be a great MIAC recruit and maybe even get something D2 wise in terms of a partial or combined scholarship. Consistent, skilled, and can play several spots.
Lamar Wood. Lamar went from a guy with great agility and potential to a power forward playing harder, using his gifts, and getting consistent results. Lamar is definitely going to have quality college options if this is the way he plays come winter time.
