In a struggle for dominance in the state, which leads to being able to get the best young players, it was huge for Powerhouse to have a team that not only performed so well on the national level and achieved much acclaim, but will be around for two more years of success. While there was no team that could push them to the brink in Arizona, here are our final top five teams in the state.
- Powerhouse 15u Black: Led By Majok Deng, who emerged as one of the top players in the West Coast, this team was strong from top to bottom. A surprise performer for them was Evan Nelson, a 2020 prospect that was steady all summer and showed up in some big games. After a 2nd place finish at the Under Armour Association Nationals, they appear to be one of the best teams in the nation and will be exciting to watch in the years to come moving forward as they add more interior size to take the next step.
- AZ Team Flight: This team was able to do what most of the 16u teams in the state couldn’t, and that’s score a win over Powerhouse. With solid team play from a group that has been together, this team should continue to grow and improve.
- AZ Sting: With Blaise Threatt leading the way, and DJ Hawkins looking like he could grow into a division 1 player, like his two older sisters, this team is a piece or two away from making some noise next year.
- I-10 Celtics: Talented backcourt with Jasaan Strover, who can get to the basket at an elite level, and BJ Burries, who gets buckets in bunches, this team competed well in the Adidas gauntlet.
- AZ Aces: Pinnacle’s duo of Spencer Rattler and CJ Nnorom fit well together for this team who played tough, often playing in 16u division in state and winning games.
