The lists compiled will be organized based on year and position, and will only include players that have open recruitments and have yet to make a verbal commitment. It’s impossible for us to mention every kid that boosted their stock throughout the summer, but we’ve narrowed down some of the players that took the biggest jumps in improvement and interest from colleges. Here’s part one of the 2018 big men.
David McCormack | 6’10” | Norfolk Academy/Team Loaded VA 17U
New Offers: Ole Miss, Missouri, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Texas A&M, Kansas, Maryland, Seton Hall, Wake Forest, Auburn, Miami, Florida State, Baylor
Vantage Hoops Ranking: #2
McCormack played up with Loaded on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit, and proved that he’s one of the best young big men in the country, which his string of high major offers proves. At 6’10” and upwards of 280 lbs., there aren’t many bigs that are more physically imposing as him, and he’s deceptively athletic both running the floor and getting off his feet. He has a soft touch in the paint, has good hands and feet and is an absolute load to handle if you try to guard him one-on-one. As he continues to get his body right, he’ll be one of the most sought after bigs in the country the next two seasons.
Aaron Cash | 6’6” | Millwood/Team Loaded VA
New Offers: George Mason
Vantage Hoops Ranking: #11
He’s in the process of trying to transition out to the wing, but Cash may fit the mold of the new school four man who can push the ball in transition, guard multiple positions and shoot the trail three. He’s an athletic finisher in transition, moves well without the ball and is able to initiate the offense from the high post. As he continues to work on his perimeter skill set Cash will be recruited by a number of schools who see him fitting their system with his versatility.
Tyrek Williams | 6’7” | LC Bird/River City Reign
New Offers: Mount St. Mary’s
Vantage Hoops Ranking: #38
He’ll likely take a big jump in the rankings as he came back from injury and dominated in the paint for Reign this summer. Williams is a skilled big on the block who can score it over either shoulder, feels double teams and has the ability to kick it to shooters, and is a force on the glass on both ends. He has to get his body a little better to get more explosive, but his ability to score it on the block with both hands in a number of ways isn’t something you find very often in bigs his age.
Nyzaiah Chambers | 6’6” | Oscar Smith/Team Loaded 757
New Offers: Mount St. Mary’s, Radford
Vantage Hoops Ranking: #42
Chambers intrigued a lot of coaches this summer with his defensive mindset and ability to alter shots at the rim. Although he’s a tad bit on the short side, he’s a coachable kid that plays with energy on both ends and has shown a lot of upside over the past couple of seasons. He’s very athletic for his size and takes pride in holding down the middle and rebounding the ball, and if he can become an impact player on the offensive end his stock will continue to rise with time.
Vincent Lee | 6’8” | Paul VI/Team Takeover Orange
Vantage Hoops Ranking: #20
Lee is sometimes an afterthought because he is always playing with other talented big men, but that doesn’t stop him from being productive every time he’s on the floor. A rebounding machine, Lee never gives up on a 50-50 rebound, and gets his hands on a lot of them to get his team extra possessions. He has good size, can score facing up or with his back to the basket off of one or two dribbles and has shown improvement in his midrange jump shot. With the departure of Corey Manigault to Pittsburgh, don’t be surprised to see Lee play a pivotal part on a talented PVI team and possibly pull in some offers this year.
