Continue ReadingThe South Dakota Attack 15U team went 27-3 this year in six events and earned the reputation as the most dominant AAU team in the PHD area this spring and summer.
Coaching the team was Blake Bradfield and coach Bradfield had a hard time pinning down the top moments of the summer considering the squad won four different tournaments.
“We had a lot of great moments on the court with the success we had winning four of the six events we were in,” Bradfield said.
“I would say the turning point for our team was when we beat a very talented Billups Elite (CO) team. That win really brought this group together and gained confidence in the potential we had to be a good team.”
PHD watched the Attack in both St Cloud and Sioux Falls this year and was very impressed with their team chemistry. The team dynamic was the top part of what this team accomplished.
“This was my first year with this group of kids, the biggest area our team grew in was just coming together as a team,” Bradfield said.
“Playing for each other and making each other better. Nobody was above the team.”
The Attack was made up of ten different players: eight from South Dakota and two from Iowa. First team all state player Noah Freidel represented Tea Area on the team, SF Christian had Mitchell Goodbary and Parker Nelson on the team, and the Attack had five others from South Dakota: Sawyer Schultz (Bridgewater-Emery), Luke Ronsiek (SF O’Gorman), Nate Rice (Dakota Valley), Jacob Prouty (Willow Lake), and Drew Cole (Brookings).
The Attack also had two really good players from Iowa: Lucas Nagel (George-Little Rock HS) and Cade Bleeker (Sioux Center HS).
“The players really bought into doing the little things right, especially on the defensive end of the court,” Coach Bradfield explained. “ We really could defend well when we wanted too, so focusing on staying disciplined defensively was stressed a lot.
“We had a couple players that really led this team as far as scoring but again they passed the ball well and got other guys going. There were many games where we had 5-7 players in double figures.”
The foundation has been set for the future of the Attack and based on the 27-3 season they return talent with a chance to get even better.
“This group has a very bright future and a great program to play for,” said Bradfield. “This group built a great relationship off the court and you could almost see that play out throughout games.
“These boys all have the same desire and passion for the game of basketball.”
