Vantage Hoops was in the gym to catch the action throughout the week. Below, we run down a scouting report of a few standouts from the class of 2018.
PF Jontay Porter | MOKAN Elite
Playing up with the 17’s per usual in Vegas, 6-foot-9 rising junior forward Jontay Porter stood out immediately given his size and soft touch from long range. The lefty is a knock down three point threat who rebounds very well out of his area. The future Washington Husky displayed solid two-way versatility.
PG Nick Price | Team Loaded VA
Nick Price set the tone with his effort and activity defensively. He was very solid on that end as a result of his length and quickness along with his anticipation. Price rebounded well from his position and did a good job pushing the ball up the court and creating on the other end.
G Brandon Slater | Team Takeover
The jumbo playmaking guard Brandon Slater was absolutely fantastic for Team Takeover during their championship run at the Las Vegas Fab 48. Slater’s consistent aggression defensively led to several impact plays, which helped fuel his high level of production offensively.
PF Jalen Smith | Team Takeover
As the MVP of Team Takeover’s title run at the Las Vegas Fab 48, Jalen Smith made a significant impact on both ends of the court. ‘Sticks’ was superb as a defender in the paint, and his lateral quickness gives him the ability to easily switch and hedge on the perimeter.
PG Wynston Tabbs | Team Melo
Wynston Tabbs has the complete package as a high major point guard prospect. Tabbs has great size at 6-foot-3 to go along with a nice feel for the game and solid vision. The athletic rising junior is very crafty with the basketball, and has shown the ability finish above the rim in traffic.
PG Tre Wood | Team Takeover
From baseline to baseline, there probably aren’t many point guards in the 2018 class who could beat Tre Wood in a sprint with the ball in their hands. The dynamic playmaker has an incredibly quick first step and can consistently get in the lane where he likes to attack the basket and create for his teammates.
SG Keyvon Voyles | Uncommon Bulls
6-foot-3 lefty wing Keyvon Voyles was very crafty around the basket offensively for the Uncommon Bulls. Voyles did a nice job filling the lanes in transition. The rising junior played with a great work rate and locked up defensively on the perimeter.
