Baker-Magrath took a step this summer. Everyone knows the 6-foot-7 power forward springs off the ground as quick as anybody to dunk, contest, swat, and/or board. He has that natural physical gift that few do. That said he needed to take a step.
This July he did as Weston looked much more comfortable maintaining low post position, catch, turning, and hitting with a soft one hander over and over. The move became something he did naturally and it’s a turn for Magrath as his low post game improves.
Division one programs have become more interested and North Dakota has offered giving Weston a D1 offer. “It felt great, definitely something special,” Weston said of his D1 offer. UND is right there for Weston as are several D2 programs.
“I’m hearing the most from UND, Nebraska-Kearney, Minnesota State-Mankato, and Colorado Springs, also division one schools I have had contact with are Furman, Pepperdine, Marist, and Northern Colorado.”
The interested schools need to make a push soon if they are going to as Weston is starting to plan visits.
“I am visiting Kearney in two weeks for my 1st official visit and then going to Colorado Springs the weekend after that and planning UND and Mankato for September and I would like to visit Pepperdine and Furman,” said Baker-Magrath.
Weston finished up a spring and summer playing with the Minnesota Fury helping them to a 35-10 record for the season and a runner-up finish at the SPTS. Weston enjoyed playing the top competition in other big cities.
“My top experiences in AAU were in Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Las Vegas and just spending time with my teammates and we all push each other to be better players so once we got to know each other more it just became more and more fun,” said Weston.
Now Weston is focused on continued improvement. He has areas he wants to improve as he gets ready for the last push with Marshall who is the second most talented team overall in Class AAA basketball next year.
“I’ll be in the weight room and working on free throws and my jump shot and also be working out with my teammates that aren’t in football,” said Weston.
