What he did mention was that GLIAC and WHAC programs have been reaching out to him.
“I’d rather not say (which schools), just because it’s kind of personal and I just want to keep it on the down-low. I’ve had phone conversations and some unofficial visits though,” said Summers who is eager to continue with the recruiting process.
“I’m just looking for the greatest college that’s the best fit for me. If I do get to play it will be a blessing. And hopefully this season goes really well for me and I can get an offer and commit in April. And hopefully this time next year I can be at a college basketball practice, with a new program, a new team, and a new life.”
A good-sized post for the Vikings, Summers was able to identify one skill that separates him from his peers — footwork.
“My footwork is what I do best, and knowing where I am on the court is a probably my strength. I need to develop a jump-shot, just a consistent 17-footer. And I probably need to work on my ball-handling a little bit more.”
Summers was playing with Grand Rapids Storm this spring before a broken thumb and subsequent surgery forced him out for the summer months.
He says being forced to watch his teammates compete without him was eye-opening.
“I think it will help me in the long run, just knowing that not playing this summer was really pulling on my heart strings,” said Summers. “I just wanted to get out there and show everyone what I could do this summer and try and get a few offers on the table. Now I’ll just have to work harder.”
He was cleared to play again last week, and now is gearing up for his senior season with the Vikings.
“Hopefully I’ll explode this senior season,” he said. “And get a lot of offers on the table.”
