Continue ReadingInjuries have plagued Columbus DeSales’ 5-foot-11 point guard Ryan Peaks over the past year, and he’s still got a lot to prove — on the gridiron and the hardwood.
As he gears up for his senior season with the football team, he looks to recover from a season missed last year due to concussion.
Then is it will be his final season of basketball — he had to miss some of his 17U season due to a shoulder injury. But he’s fine now.
As of right now, he has no favorite sport picked — and says he’s not ready to choose which one he might play in college.
“I don’t really have a favorite right now,” said Peaks. “I love them both.”
He went on to explain his current recruitment situation.
“It’s really just been D3 as of right now for basketball, and I’ve gotten a couple elite camp invites to Ashland and Findlay. And I sat out my junior season of football last season with a concussion, so that recruitment has been a little slower,” said Peaks, who said he’d be OK playing D3 ball next season.
“I’d be comfortable with (playing D3 basketball), but just whatever is best for me, that’s what I’ll go with.”
Whatever hoops program he may end up with next season, it’ll get a floor general with a pass-first mentality.
“I’m a really good leader, and I can control the tempo of the game. And I really like to get all the players on my team involved,” said Peaks.
“I’ve been working on my jump-shot a lot this summer, trying to get that better.”
With his senior season just months away, Peaks says this year he’ll have to get out if his natural role of pass-first and score the ball more.
“I think this year I’ll have to be a lot more aggressive, and I think I’ll have to score a little bit more and not look to pass as much,” he said. “Other than that I’ll be the leader of the team, just control the tempo of the game, and be a coach on the floor.”
