More importantly, he understands this special ability and has shaped his game around it. While Sammons would like to improve his offensive craft by coming off of screens more effectively and shoring up ball-handling, he’s aware that athletic prowess is how he can help the team.
“I’m really good at taking it down-hill and getting to the basket, especially when I have a smaller guard on me … I love playing defense a lot,” Sammons said.
Sammons can also be seen often flying to the rim for weak side offensive rebounds. He uses similar timing and gaps in the defense to cut and finish off the pass. Overall, his off-ball game is calculated and explosive.
Currently, he has an offer from Glenville State, a Division II school in West Virginia. He also just returned from a Fairmont State work-out last weekend.
Additionally, he mentioned that others have shown interest: Ohio Wesleyan, Cincinnati Christian, Lake Erie, Otterbein, Capital, Charleston University (WV), Wabash (IN), Allegheny (PA), and Rose Hulman (IN).
“Whoever really wants to take a shot, and let me play basketball for the team. I’d love to play anywhere. I like an offense where I can play guard, like the two. Because in high school, it’s been a little bit hard since my school’s undersized. We have to stretch the floor a lot.”
“Just somewhere that I think that I’d be able make an impact, help the school out, and help win some games,” Sammons said.
He did not provide any timeline on his college decision or point to a particular school as a front-runner.
