For many the dream of playing basketball in college does not become a reality until they pick up their first offer. This week the dream for Kyle Dortch became a reality with Southwestern College in Kansas offering him.
Dortch was excited to see his work on the court pay off with his first offer to play college basketball.
“Picking up my first offer felt nice knowing how much work I have put into the game to improve my game to get noticed,” Dortch said. “It is finally paying off.”
Dortch is looking forward to a big senior year at Fort Gibson. The Tigers will look to Dortch to be a bigger leader on the floor. Fort Gibson made the State Tournament a year ago and pulled off a massive upset against Harrah in the first round.
One area Dortch is working to improve is his rebounding skills. He wants to improve his rebounding average for his senior year.
At the Forward spot Dortch is a gritty tough player that excels at driving to the basket and finishing in traffic. He can play the 3 or the 4 depending on the coaches system. Recently, Dortch was named the #7 Small Forward in 2017 Oklahoma Class by Prep Hoops.
The offer from Southwestern College is his first, but likely won’t be his last. Dortch will have a chance to be one of the top players in Class 4A this next year. The style of game Dortch plays is not flashy he simply gets the job done.
Fort Gibson has a chance to have a special team this season under the leadership of Dortch.
