Continue ReadingJericho Sims put himself on the national stage in the fall when his offer list went from impressive to one of the best in the state. This July Sims has hit an ever higher level.
The most recent offers to come to Sims have been from Ohio State, Creighton, and UCONN. Teams like Indiana and North Carolina are calling with contact and Minnesota, Oregon, Texas, Nebraska, Kansas State, Iowa State, Xavier, and some others put in a big effort to see Jericho on a daily basis this July.
The growing interest from North Carolina is what many feel has taken the 6-foot-9 frontcourt talent to another level. UNC has not offered Jericho but their interest is quite serious.
Roy Williams has offered front court standout Isaiah Stokes a scholarship at the spot and Stokes is the main target, but Sims seems to be next in line.
“I think it’s fair to say North Carolina is recruiting (Jericho),” said Jeremy Miller, coach of D1 Minnesota. “(They’ve been) just checking in, seeing if the interest would be mutual if they got involved.
“He was telling me how good they think he can be in the future. But he was more so gauging Jericho’s interest in North Carolina.”
And is Jericho interested in the Tar Heels?
“He’s interested,” said Miller to Scout.com. “He’s wide open right now. He’s getting a lot of new calls every day. We’re researching them and they’re researching him.
“(Their) next step was to reach out to Jericho and his family, do their due diligence on that end, and kind of understand the person they’re recruiting. They do a really thorough job.”
Miller’s description of the Cristo Rey Jesuit senior-to-be was quite detailed, and described a rare talent.
“He’s just a freak athlete,” said Miller. “He’s one of the best athletes in the country. He’s light on his feet, we can switch him onto any position and feel good about it.
“He has an insane vertical leap. I haven’t seen many players in my years that can get off the ground like him.
“He can finish with his left or right hand and if you watch him play over the course of a game you won’t be able to tell what hand he is.
“He’s ambidextrous. It gives him the ability to go over both shoulders and change his shots like few others I’ve ever coached.”
Playing with D1 Minnesota every day, Jericho Sims went against four star Wisconsin committed Nathan Reuvers, nationally ranked George Mason committed forward Goanar Mar, five star 2019 talent Matthew Hurt, 4-star 2018 forward Race Thompson, athletic multi-D1 offered Jarvis Thomas, and others from the program.
“Being on this type of AAU team where there was other skilled height, has helped Jericho. Every practice was a battle and I think he saw that there are a lot of good players out there and that he has to work to keep the advantage on those guys.
“I think this is the first time he’s been matched up with other bigs that are really good and it pushed him to another level.”
Some places have properly ranked Jericho in the top 100 while others have been slow to the game. Miller, and Northstar Hoops feel that when the rankings are re-sorted, Sims will a four star top 100 talent everywhere.
“I think we’ll see him spike in the fall when the rankings are updated,” said Miller. “His ceiling is as high as anyone in the country right now.”
