The Minnesota Warriors went 44-11 and Alec had some explosive performances in memorable wins in the NY2LA Spring Extravaganza title game and in the state tournament win over Minnesota Fury Zurn. There was also his scary injury in Milwaukee and him cheering on his teammates in Las Vegas with sunglasses and ear plugs because of that concussion.
“Some of my top experiences would just being able to grow as a basketball player and a person over the past six years with the Warriors,” Alec said. “A lot of teams get jumbled around over the years and the fact that most of us were together for 5 or 6 years is pretty special!
“A few things that stood out to me this year would be our NY2LA championship in April, our win against Dream Vision in Milwaukee, and how I was able to be there with my team for our last game in Vegas after my injury!
“In terms of how AAU made me a better basketball player I would have to say just going against bigger, more talented players every day in practice and in games.”
Another key moment for Alec and his twin brother Luke Loehr was picking up college scholarship opportunities.
“I’m hearing the most from Navy, Army, Augustana, Hillsdale, and Upper Iowa so really all of the schools that have offered Luke and I are showing the most interest,” said Loehr.
“Luke and I are visiting West Point (Army) and Hillsdale later this month and then we have an official at Navy September 9-11 and then we’d like to visit Augustana officially sometime in September too.”
And there is a final season of high school basketball to play. The Irish should be much better this year but for that to happen the Irish need a good three months of work before practice starts.
“I think the biggest thing is just keeping guys in the gym as much as possible, myself included,” Alec said. “Once school starts back up in the fall we will have team lifting and conditioning and captains practices.
“All three of those things will allow our good group of seniors to be able to set the tone for the season.”
