Last season Borneman was a regular contributor as a sophomore with the Mustangs and averaged 7.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game.
This season he’ll be the team’s returning leading scorer. And he’ll have a variety of different roles.
“I’m going to be playing some point guard this year, so I’ve been really trying to work on my ball-handling, particularly my off-hand. I’m going to have more of a leadership role, and I’m going to have to score more than I did last year, and get people the ball,” said Borneman, who defined his playing style to PHIA.
“I’m probably best at getting to the hoop, and once I get there I’m pretty good at finishing most of the time. I’ve become a more consistent shooter over the summer and I’ve been working on that. And I like attacking early in the game to get my confidence up.”
Borneman spent his spring and summer playing several tournaments with Kingdom Hoops X 16U, where he got some experience at being a team’s main scoring option.
“With that team we were a very guard-heavy team, so I had to play a little bigger than I normally do,” he said. “And I was the main scorer on the team, and whenever we needed a bucket, my teammates would look to me to get us a basket,” said Borneman who mentioned his goals for the upcoming season.
“I would like to start getting some letters from colleges and stuff by the end of the season,” he said. “And make it to state, obviously.”
