The 6’0” combo guard has received early questionnaires from a number of division one programs, including Davidson and Virginia Tech most recently, and he’s ready to show that not only can he play, he can lead too.
“I’m honestly expecting to lead Louisa to the state playoffs this year,” Poindexter said.
After a good freshman year and summer with Team Loaded 434, Poindexter’s in a position to solidify himself as one of the top young players in the 434 area. While he still has to fill out, he’s a capable scorer from all three levels, can play both guard positions and can score it off the bounce and off the catch.
Poindexter is a combo guard that’s ready to establish himself this season.
While he’s very skilled, especially offensively, it’s Poindexter’s mindset and work ethic that set him apart from other talented young players.
“I do 200 push ups and sit-ups at home every night, plus plank work,” he said. “I’m working really hard to get stronger so I can get to the free throw line more often and become a better rebounding guard.”
Poindexter’s no nonsense attitude isn’t just at home, it shows on the court as well. Whether he’s playing pick up, AAU or a high school rival, he wants to be the go-to guy and best player on the court every game.
“I love getting up and down because it lets me get to the basket. I also love taking the big shots at the end of the game, pressure doesn’t phase me.”
With his no nonsense attitude, ability to fill it up offensively and the pride that he has to put his hometown on the map, expect a big season from Poindexter, and don’t be surprised if Louisa tries to crash the party in the 2A State Championships this year as well.
