In this edition we’ll be taking an up close look at some of the top returning scorers form the DC Metro Area.
Kiyon Boyd | H.D. Woodson ’18
In just his sophomore year at H.D. Woodson, 6-foot-5 shooting guard Kiyon Boyd put up 15.3 points while snagging over 8 boards per game. The super strong, skilled guard converted on 126 of his 169 free throw attempts last season, illustrating his aggressiveness and efficiency. Boyd, who recorded a season-high 39 points in a win vs. Gonzaga late last season, should see a significant uptick in his production given the departure of last year’s leading scorer Antwan Walker to Hargrave.
Dom Fragala | Champe ’17
Dom Fragala burst onto the scene at Champe with a 41 point eruption in just his second game with the Knights. Fragala, who averaged over 18 points per game in his first season at Champe, dropped 54 points in a win vs. Patriot during summer league. Look for the crafty and skilled lead guard to put up monster numbers during his final high school season.
Luka Garza | Maret ’17
The top returning scorer from the area, Luka Garza averaged nearly 25 points and 14 rebounds per game for Maret last season. Garza, who ran on the EYBL with Team Takeover this summer, is a matchup nightmare given his size along with his skill and ability to score from multiple areas of the floor. Look for Garza to once again be among the leading scorers throughout the DMV.
Chris Lykes | Gonzaga ’17
We saw Chris Lykes drop 37 points in a win at Bishop O’Connell last season, which was one of the finest examples of his skill, excitement, and explosiveness. Lykes, who led the Eagles with a 22 point-per-game scoring average last season, was a top-10 scorer in the entire area. Look for the defending WCAC Player of the Year to put up similar type numbers as he competes for the league championship.
Jamir Moultrie | Bishop McNamara ’17
Jamir Moultrie, who ran with Baltimore Elite on the Adidas Gauntlet this summer, is the top returning scorer for the Mustangs this season. Moultrie, who averaged just over 18 points per game last year, is coming off a strong summer at the BSN summer league in which he averaged over 23 points per contest. Look for the skilled lead guard to lead McNamara in scoring again during his final campaign.
