Notebook: August 19th
We would be remiss not to mention the flooding going on and the devastation it’s brought to Baton Rouge, Livingston Parish, Ascension Parish, and surrounding areas and use this platform as a chance to thank those who have helped already and plea for help from anyone with time on their hands this weekend. It’ll be a long recovery for most.
This week was expected to contain a ton of recaps, reports, updates, etc. from camp which was scheduled for last Saturday and has been pushed back to August 28th, a week from Sunday. With that out of the window, we’ll let you know a few things we’ve heard.
Elite 24 / Nike Bahama’s Trip. Javonte Smart (6’4 PG, Scotlandville, 2018) and Josh Anderson (6’5 G, Madison Prep, 2017) are at the Elite 24 this week and looking to boost their national stock that has already risen. Mitchell Robinson (6’11 PF/C, Chalmette, 2017) is headed to the Bahama’s with Nike to play against a Bahamian Select Team.
Elite Camps have been taking place and others are still to come and offers have been coming from them on a consistent basis. Dexter Dennis (6’5 G/F, Southern Lab, 2017) has picked up a couple D1 offers from Nicholls State and Southern recently and is headed to ULL’s Team Camp with the hope of another offer. J’Son Brooks (6’7 SF, LaGrange, 2017) has UNO and McNeese offers with a decision likely coming in November; he too is hearing from ULL.
Southern cancelled their Elite Camp due to the flooding while the LSUA Elite Camp date was set for August 20th. With limited opportunities to get on the court available, we love to see the growth players take in their game at these points in the season.
Camp is fully on for the 28th and registration is still open for a waiting list and potential spot. We look forward to seeing some talent on the court next Sunday and keep in mind it’s open for anyone to come watch and support the young student athletes.
