As the season winds down and many players return from AAU back to their high school squads, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the players who have raised their stock the most since last high school season. Below is a rundown of seven rising junior guards who have seen a sharp boost in their recruitment this summer as a result of consistently productive play.
Brendan Adams | Calvert Hall
With his size, improving athleticism and ability to play on and off the ball, there is plenty to like about what Brendan Adams brings to the table. The sharpshooting 6-foot-3 lead guard displays an exceptionally quick release to go along with a slick handle and the ability to pull up on a dime at any moment. This summer, Adams has seen a boost in his recruitment with recent offers from schools such as St. Bonaventure, Towson, Saint Joseph’s, and Kansas State.
Saddiq Bey | Sidwell Friends
Standing around 6’4″, Saddiq Bey possesses good size for a two guard. Bey is a strong perimeter shooter who is adept at creating separation off the dribble. A solid rebounder from his position, Bey does a nice job boxing out his man and rebounding in traffic. Bey has received his first scholarship offer from Towson this summer.
Isaiah Burke | St. Mary’s
Isaiah Burke put on a show for District Basketball Club 16U during the early part of the summer. The dynamic playmaker was so good on both ends of the floor that he earned a call up to the 17U squad for the latter part of the summer. Burke gained valuable experience this summer which should benefit him as he prepares for the high school season.
Noah Locke | McDonogh
One of the most consistent performers we’ve seen in grassroots basketball this summer has to be Noah Locke. The skilled and crafty guard is a prolific scorer from three levels. Locke torched his opponents from long range but also did a nice job mixing it up attacking the basket where he consistently finished in traffic. Saint Joseph’s, Penn State, and Old Dominion have each offered Locke since July.
Montez Mathis | John Carroll
A big guard who rebounds well out of his area, Montez Mathis is an explosive force in the open court once he snares the ball off the glass. The jumbo playmaker, who has offers from schools such as NC State, Memphis, West Virginia, Southern California, and St. John’s will make the switch from Oak Hill to John Carroll this upcoming season and team up with Immanuel Quickley to form one of the most dynamic guard duos in the Mid-Atlantic.
Demetrius Mims | Poly
There is a lot to like about what Demetrius Mims brings to the table on both ends of the floor. At around 6-foot-5, the long limbed and versatile guard is effective both as a scorer and playmaker. Mims moves well without the ball and can break down defenders with it. Defensively, he’s very tenacious and active. His length gives him an edge both on the perimeter and when defending in the paint. Mims has already fielded offers from schools such as VCU, St. John’s, and Old Dominion.
Wynston Tabbs | St. Mary’s Ryken
One of the most dynamic two-way guards in the DMV region, Wynston Tabbs has seen a huge boost in his recruitment this summer. While running with Team Melo, Tabbs has scored offers from schools such as La Salle, Towson, Saint Louis, Penn State, James Madison, and George Washington. Along with his size and athleticism, Tabbs possesses an impressive skill set and a fantastic feel for the game. Look for the heady floor general to carry the momentum he built this summer with him into what should to be a breakout junior campaign.
