As the summer winds down and many players return from AAU back to their high school squads, we’ll be taking a look back at some of the players who have raised their stock the most since last high school season. These six wings and posts could continue to see boosts in their recruitment given their exceptional performances on the hardwood.
Keve Aluma | Decatur
Since forming arguably one of the best high-low partnerships in grassroots basketball with Ejike Obinna, Keve Aluma has continued to assert himself and demonstrated the ability to compete among the top bigs in his class. Perhaps one of the most intriguing post prospects in the Mid-Atlantic, the 6-foot-8 power forward is an excellent rebounder out of his area who sets sturdy screens, makes strong rim runs, and possesses soft hands. Wofford, UMBC, Loyola, UTEP and Canisus are among the schools which have come on board to offer Aluma scholarships since July. Given his strong academic record in conjunction with his rapidly developing skill set, it appears quite clear that the best is still yet to come from Aluma.
Darron Barnes | Wise
A powerful and versatile wing who can get it done on both ends of the floor, Darron Barnes is beginning to see the benefit of a summer where he demonstrated consistently strong play. Following his Top 20 All-star Game Selection at Hoop Group Elite 1, Barnes landed a scholarship offer from Maine Head Coach Bob Walsh, who was present throughout the week at camp. A do-it-all type who has underrated vision, Barnes could potentially thrive in a playmaking role at the next level.
Josh Carlton | DeMatha
At 6-foot-10 with a ridiculously long wingspan, Josh Carlton possesses a remarkably solid skill set on the offensive end of the floor. A very good rebounder both on the offensive and defensive glass, Carlton is also very effective as a rim protector and finisher in traffic. Kansas State, Texas A&M, St. Joe’s, UCONN, La Salle, and Kent State are among the schools who have offered the DeMatha big man this summer.
Nigel Jackson | Mount Saint Joseph
Nigel Jackson brings a ton of versatility to any team on both ends of the court. At about 6-foot-6, the small forward can score it both in the post and from the triple threat on the perimeter. Jackson is an efficient long range threat who can consistently hit shots off the dribble and also rebounds well from his position. Penn, Holy Cross, Yale, Wagner, Bryant, American, and UMBC are among the schools who have been recently involved in Jackson’s recruitment.
Curtis Mitchell | Georgetown Prep
As the anchor for Team Legacy during their run to the 17U Championship at Hoop Group Southern Jam Fest, Curtis Mitchell finished off the summer on a positive note as he was also able to capture the BSN Summer League Title with Georgetown Prep. The mobile, 6-foot-9 big man has a nice inside-out skill set and good footwork. Mitchell is an active rim protector and rebounder on the defensive end. He runs the floor, sets very good screens, and exhibits soft hands. Mitchell’s likely destination at the next level could be in the Ivy League.
Ross Young | Sidwell Friends
One of the hardest working players we’ve seen this summer, there’s never a question that Ross Young will give max effort each time he hits the floor. Owning an underrated touch from mid-to-long range, Young is able to stretch the floor and play as a stretch big in an uptempo type system. A strong rebounder who is active both on the offensive and defensive glass, the 6-foot-6 forward is a sneaky athlete who can really elevate and finish.
