Continue ReadingThe class of 2017 in Indiana is starting to come to a point where things are starting to pick up. On Wednesday, we saw another player take a step towards the next level as Lebanon (IN) wing Trevor Lakes made his commitment. The 6’7 forward is off the board and heading to Maryville.
In the spring, Lakes was among the best performers in the state and was shooting the ball at a high level. That helped to spur his recruitment to a new level that showed itself this July as he picked up a pair of DI offers. Southeast Missouri State and Maine were the two programs that pulled the trigger but ultimately, it came down to the school that offered first.
“I felt like that was the right fit for me as a player and where I could have the most success,” Lakes said of Maryville. “I got along great with the team and the coaches really well. They are all great guys, and there’s not a better coach to play for than Coach (Kevin) Carroll.”
Maryville, a DII program out of Saint Louis, Missouri, offered back in May after the first couple of live periods. They saw a guy who could play multiple positions and at 6’7, he was going to create mismatches due to his shooting ability. Maryville has had quite a bit of success here in the last few years getting kids from the Hoosier state. Now, they can add Lakes to that list.
Lakes is now the 10th prospect in our 2017 database to be committed and the first player in Indiana for 2017 to be committed to a DII program.
