It might not necessarily always be the highest rated prospect in the program either although it very well could be.
Like several other programs the Illinois Wolves program MVP was a very tough one to choose with quite a few deserving candidates. The player that we have recognized as the Wolves MVP for the spring and summer is Fenwick 2017 wing Jamal Nixon.
A lot of deserving candidates for this one with Trevian Bell and TJ Clifford doing work on the 17U level. Top tier younger prospects Drew Peterson and Perry Cowan also had strong showings on the circuit posting consistent numbers. We went with Nixon for a number of reasons. First is he has been the anchor for this team from day one. When we first saw this group as 14 year olds Nixon was one of the standouts. He has matured over the years especially in his leadership. Nixon was the captain of the Wolves and it was evident that he was the guy that they followed. The third reason is his versatility. He might not standout in one area, but it is stat sheet stuffing ability across the board that is impressive scoring on the interior, being a plus passing wing, outstanding rebounder from the guard position, and defends. The kid is just a winner and guy that every successful basketball team needs.
Congrats to Jamal on winning the Illinois Wolves Program MVP!
