Blaze Commits
On a weekend of a hundred campus visits, officials and otherwise, Ohio State captured the Midwest headline with two verbal commitments, Darius Bazley and Justin Ahrens.
“I’d like to thank God for this amazing opportunity,” tweeted Bazley early Saturday afternoon. “I’d also like to thank all my family, friends, and coaches for their support. I’ve decided to commit to The Ohio State University! I am excited to pursue a great education and be a Buckeye! Coach Matta and his coaching staff are amazing and I can’t wait to play in front of Buckeye Nation! #BuckeyeNation!!”
Bazley is either #1 or #2 in the state, depending on who you ask. King James 16u Head Coach Quincy Simpson loves Bazley.
Coach Q wants him to be more vocal and accept a leadership role with King James in the future. Because he is so skilled and talented peers naturally follow his lead.
“Blaze” joins Dane Goodwin as a member of OSU’s 2018 class.
He had offers from Toledo, Florida, SLU, Cincinnati, and Purdue. As a surefire Top 50 player nationally his offer list would have grown to 25+ in a year. Most likely, Bazely would have captured offers from most of the Big 10, half the ACC, and possibly Kentucky, Kansas, etc.
He is that good and going to be that great. Bazley is special, but what makes him so highly coveted is his size and likelihood of dramatic improvement.
