They were a competitive group most of the times I was able to see them but were interesting from a scouting angle because of the size they had on their roster. This isn’t a small team. They have a true post in Emerson Haliblieb and guards that are 6’2+ across the board. With that, they did play a little bit slower and more methodical and teams were able to matchup well against them. However, I saw the emergence a bit from guys like Haliblieb and Josh Watson this summer and they are on the radar for this upcoming high school season.
Best Player: University post player Emerson Haliblieb isn’t going to blow you away with anything he does, expect for maybe his efficiency. At 6’5 and probably 215, Emerson is one of the only big men this state has in 2018. It’s dry of size but they guys they do have are unique. Haliblieb is a big, strong kid who doesn’t worry about flash, rather just tries to finish each play as quickly and as effectively as possible and he does it every game. Small schools will covet him because of his IQ and his well-defined skill set.
Players To Watch: Emerson isn’t the only talent at University. Guard Josh Watson is a guy that will be interesting to watch over the next year. He’s 6’3 and still has enough handles in his game that you can play him on the ball a bit. However, he’s a two-guard that loves to rip it from distance. He’s got quite a bit of offense coming from that one skill but he will need to clean up the percentage over the next few months. He’s worth a look this winter for sure.
