One of the ones I found this summer that I liked was Indiana Elite East. Made up of mostly East Central Indiana kids, they were a group with talent and more than just a handful of them. Guys like Garrett Pumphrey, Garrett Silcott, and Niah Williamson are worth a look for small college programs. They are a typical Indiana team built around shooting with a little bit of size and they ran that style pretty well. Niah and Silcott were really good from behind the arc and could light it up.
Best Player: Any of the trio could fit in this section but I liked how Pumphrey developed this summer. He has been tall for a while but wasn’t comfortable in his body and couldn’t make as many plays as he would want. Now, he is a little stronger and more comfortable and can move around the floor a lot better. His shot blocking was key this season as he went from being just a big kid to a guy that can face-up block and come from the weak-side. He knows what he is doing now and where that takes his game this winter could be fun to watch.
Players To Watch: I really liked the play this summer of Niah Williamson. For the most part, he is a typical Indiana guard, a guy with some size and a great shooting stroke. And while those guys grow on trees here, this isn’t typical for places outside of Indiana. He was also a guy that didn’t get a ton of run last year with New Castle but some opportunities should open up for him this year and with his ability to shoot like he does, he could put up some numbers really quickly and help the team to a bit of success.
