The event was a great opportunity to see many local teams and the rising talent that will take the court this upcoming VHSL season. Below is a break down of a few players whose performances stood out.
Dereon Seabron– Lake Taylor High School
The lengthy and athletic wing played a major role for the Titans in their fast paced offensive attack. Snagging the ball right off the rim, Seabron was explosive in the open court, often going coast to coast for some above the rim finishes. When the pace was slower he showed some impressive moves out of triple threat and weaved his way into the paint to finish the play.
Cole Schlothauer– Lee Davis High School
The rising junior was a force for the Confederates as he showed the ability to score from multiple spots on the floor. Using his size and strength, Cole continually powered his way to the basket and finished through contact. At one point during the day he exemplified this by throwing down a two handed and 1 dunk during a fast break. With a reliable jumper from both deep and mid range he proved to be a tough matchup for smaller perimeter players.
Quinton McColgan– Kempsville High School
McColgan stood out for his defensive effort and perseverance on every possession. He fought throughout the day to keep opposing bigs from establishing post position and was successful in forcing catches off the block. He also proved to be one of teams best rebounders by reading missed shots well and relentlessly tracking down the ball.
Jalen Jordan – Lake Taylor High School
With a mix of finesse and athleticism Jordan looked nearly unguardable for long stretches of the game. The lefty guard constantly broke down his man off the dribble and made some crafty finishes around the rim. As the defense begin to sag off him, he proved he was just as comfortable shooting the ball and cashed in on his open looks from deep.
Adrian Beasley– Tallwood High School
Beasley exhibited great versatility on both sides of the ball for the Lions by playing and guarding multiple positions. When he was playing on the perimeter, he established himself as a threat by attacking off the dribble. He showed the same confidence playing in the post and gave defenders problems with good work and strong shot fakes. Beasley’s pursuit of second chance shots highlighted his willingness to do the little things for his teams benefit.
