He’s only getting bigger and stronger. He’s noticeably muscular, smart with the ball and wise beyond his years as an attacker.
There’s a reason he’s ranked No. 2 overall in the Prep Hoops Michigan 2019 rankings.
Weems averaged 23 points over the first two days of the Super Showcase in Orlando last week for The Family 15U. He simply plays ahead of most at his age. He added a team-best 27 points in a Day 1 win over the Orlando Orangemen and then followed that up with a 19-point performance against ATL Finest.
I talked to Weems after their win over the Orlando Orangemen and he said that when he starts attacking that’s when he gets going.
“We struggled a little bit. I attack better,” Weems said about his summer travel season. “Everything is just better, ballhandling, shooting, passing.”
He’s used to playing all over the lineup as one of the best big men on his travel squad including at both power forward and center. Weems said it’s his role.
At New Haven, he’ll play guard much like he did last season and he expects to be a team leader as a sophomore.
Weems is currently drawing interest from Xavier, Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State.
This kid is a serious threat to score every time he gets down low. His range is evident as a shooter. He’s lengthy and strong at the point of attack. Weems is only getting started and with more growth as a player and to his body, he is going to be hard to slow down.
