Continue ReadingThe summer heading into a prospect’s senior season is always a big one from both a recruitment and a development stand point, but for Hermitage point guard Tim Coward it was also big from a leadership perspective. After helping lead Hermitage to the #3 seed in the Conference 11 tournament as a junior, Coward will be leaned upon more as both a leadership and a production standpoint heading into his senior year.
“Well I definitely have to be the leader on the floor since I’m the point guard of the team, but since Robbie [Osbourn] is gone I have to be more vocal and lead the team in any way that will help us win,” Coward said.
The 6’2″ combo guard continued his stellar play as a leader with River City Reign Hill this summer, playing alongside future backcourt mate Chuck Hill. Coward’s ability to shoot it from deep both off the catch and the dribble, and his good size in the backcourt allow him to play both guard positions, and should fit well in the backcourt with Hill.
After 3 seasons, Coward’s ready for his turn to lead. His play over the past two years has attracted the eye of a number of division two and division three schools, including Catawba, Virginia Wesleyan and Fairmont State. With a big senior season he’s hoping to get a couple of more schools interested, but he’s more interested in the quality of schools and not the quantity.
“Academics are first and foremost,” Coward said, “But I’d also like to attend a school with a winning program and hopefully one that is diverse as well.”
Now that the summer is over however, he’s focusing on helping his team gel in the preseason, and leaving his high school career with a bang.
“It’s my last go around, so nothing less than a state championship, first team all conference and first team all metro will do.”
A rising prospect on a rising team that has managed to stay under the radar in the Richmond area the last few seasons, be sure to keep an eye on Coward and Hermitage once November comes around.
