He was the talk of the town dropping multiple games with huge stat lines. Williams put up 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 blocked shots in a win in the Semifinals down in Florida. He had many other 20+ point games as well. Schools noticed and were interested quickly. Saint Louis, UConn, and Georgetown all offered during the month of July.
Williams is drawing a ton of interest because of his NBA level potential. At 6’11, he plays like a guard and has such a versatile skill set that he is a matchup nightmare. He can get out in transition and make plays with ease. Malik can sit down in the post, block your shot, get the rebound, and handle it through traffic to the other end and finish above the rim. He has to become a bit tougher and improve his post defense a bit but that is a bit nit picky at this point.
However, on Monday, Malik made a decision to cut his list down. He’s now at his Final Eight with the contenders being North Carolina State, Georgetown, Michigan State, Iowa, UCLA, Louisville, Purdue, and Indiana.
The biggest buzz surrounding Malik Williams has been that of Louisville. Head coach Rick Pitino has been around him for most of the month of July. Louisville went two and three deep for most of his games. Williams was on campus this Spring as well.
Iowa is another program that has been high up on his list. He took a visit there this past winter for a game and walked away impressed. It seems like he could still get some new interest between now and the beginning of the high school season but at this point, he has his Final Eight. Next step will be official visits.
