Prospect Spotlight: Ben Roderick (2019)
One of Ohio’s most intriguing 2019 prospects is 6-foot-5 Olentangy Liberty wing Ben Roderick.
The sophomore-to-be started last season as a freshman with the Patriots and should blossom into a star very soon.
A good-sized wing with a diverse set of skills, Roderick defined his playing style to PHO.
“When I’m on the floor I like to shoot a lot of 3s, but I also like to drive and score and get fouled and get to the free-throw line as well. But I also like to pull-up and hit a mid-range a lot too. And that’s pretty much it.”
This spring and summer he played with the Columbus Bears’ 15U squad, and it was defense that he made a priority.
“This year in AAU I really tried to work on my defense, I tried to get more stops and move my feet more,” said Roderick. “And also instead of just standing around the 3-point line, I worked on really slashing to the middle and getting open for those mid-range shots – and then driving and scoring as well.”
After starting last season as a freshman, Roderick mentioned how his role may change next season.
“I think my role will be to mostly score a lot,” he said. “But also to become more of a leader on the team and help guys out that are coming up and helping them develop so we can be a better team.”
Still with plenty of time for his recruitment to materialize, Roderick isn’t too concerned with the process just yet. But he did recently receive his first Division I letter in the mail.
“I just recently received a letter from Tennessee-Martin, a player evaluation letter,” he said.
