Team: Howard Pulley continues to defend as good as anybody and the game changed in the second because of the way the Panthers defended and opened the game up with their transition attack. The Panthers defend as well as anybody, they set better screens within sets than anybody (very underrated thing as these kids put bodies on bodies to clear space for teammates), and they are moving the ball.
Gary Trent Jr. Gary took 23 shots and made nine for his 22 points and 13 rebounds. The biggest take for Gary was his scoring binges. He went on an early binge and then in the middle of the second half he scored three times on jumpers to blow the game wide open. Played like the five star talent and MVP he has been named. Duke, Arizona, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo were watchgin.
Tre Jones: Tre had 13 points but his biggest impact was the five steals and five assists. Jones destroyed the opposing lead guard with his quick hands, lateral quicks, and strength. He beat his man to every angle and then after the turnover started a constant break. Also did a great job moving the ball in the halfcourt set. Arizona and Duke had assistants watching.
Jeremiah Coddon. Jermiah contributed a nice mid-lane jumper off the bounce and an assist in his five minutes of time.
Brad Davison. The Maple Grove standout made three jumpers that changed momentum and his approach to catch and fire in a rhythm with no hesitation was something that really stood out. Brad also was a vocal leader on both ends, moved the ball to Trent for three scores, and hit his five jumpers. Head coaches from Northern Iowa, Michigan, Stanford, and Minnesota were watching plus assistants from Wisconsin, Butler, and Dayton.
Isaac Johnson. Isaac’s defense was a key part to the Panther run. He was on the floor for 26 minutes because he defended the Prospects four and five star talents with fantastic effort using his length and lateral quicks to get beat opponents to angles. Also did a great job trapping behind the arc with Jones and forcing mistakes. Scored four times actively at the rim and moved the ball for transition assists.
Daniel Oturo. Played half the game and totaled 10 points and 9 rebounds. Got those numbers based on raw talent and activity. It’s scary how good he will be when he adds core strength and gets more experience because he is nearly getting EYBL double-doubles now competing in a raw, high energy way.
Theo John. The biggest thing that Theo did was block shots. He swatted three shots and contested others. Among the schools on him Minnesota’s head coach was there as were assistants from Marquette, Illinois, and Oklahoma.
The Panthers play again at 11am today and Northstar Hoops will be there.
