PF Taylor Bruninga (Illini Bluffs 17U)
The Illini Bluffs 6’7” power forward continued his scorching July with another strong performance on Friday. Bruninga is a skilled forward that can really shoot it off the catch. He particularly likes spotting up in the corners. Flashed some post skill on Friday and is a better athlete that people give him credit. Had a nice cut off the ball to the hoop where he received a pass and put it in. D2 prospect for sure and potential LM guy.
SF Liam Lyman (Illinois Stars 17U)
Lyman was a key part of the success Benet had reaching it to Peoria this past season. The 2017 had his best game we have seen of the spring on Friday. Lyman’ strength is shooting it from the perimeter. He has a strong body and good size, but he is going to be looked at by colleges as a shooting specialist. He had 14 points.
PG Keondre Schumacher (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
Schumacher continued a consistently quality month with Y&R. He is a point guard that can really shoot it from deep. One of the better point guard shooters from three in the state. Also made several nice decisions with the ball and pressured his opponent on the other end. High D2/LM prospect.
PF Dolapo Olayinka (All-In/Young & Reckless 17U)
The Mather power forward is only listed at 6’4”, but he plays much bigger than his height. Olayinka has a long and angular frame which allows him to get to boards he might not without his length. Plays with a never ending motor and will out work much bigger guys on the glass. He was powerful finishing around the hoop and cleaning up junk. Not very skilled, but is that junk yard dog that every successful team needs. Great D3/NAIA candidate.
SF Oliver Stephen (Jets-Ramey United 17U)
Stephen is among the top shooters in the state. The 6’4” wing from Edwardsville can let it fly from deep. He did miss a few on Friday, but also connected on his fair share. With his ability to shoot it with a clean and effortless stroke he should be looked at by LM/D2 programs. Needs to round out game to max out ability.
SF Joe Wieskamp (Iowa Barnstormers 16U)
Big fan of this Iowa commit. He has size for position, skill, and above average athleticism. The future Hawkeye is a plus shooter from three. He has great form on his jumper. Athleticism plays well in the open floor and on the defensive end where he is a quality perimeter defender and even blocks a shot every now and then.
SG Cameron Williams (Southwest Jets 16U)
This Hazelwood East (MO) 2018 wing was the most consistently productive player for the Southwest Jets 16U squad. Williams is a powerfully built wing that is at his best attacking downhill. Finishes well in the paint and gets to the foul line at a high rate. D2 kid with LM potential.
PG Courtney Ramey (Jets-Ramey United 16U)
Ramey was PHENOMENAL again! He has become one of my favorite players to watch on the circuit. The electric point guard has size, athleticism, and feel. As a scorer Ramey showed his ability to get anywhere he wanted with ease. Got to the bucket for score after score. His monster pressure defense turned steals into points on the other end in the blink of an eye. His most impressive attribute was his passing however. He made some just simply incredible dishes where he threw the ball on a rope through traffic right to his man for an easy basket. Found shooters, cutters, bigs, and wing finishers in transition. He did it all! In my eyes he is a five star national type point guard.
SF Torrence Watson (Jets-Ramey United 16U)
Watson was a very successful Robin to Ramey’s Batman. Watson is a big and physical wing with great athleticism from Whitfield High School in Missouri. He showed that to open the game with a back door alley-oop. Impressive finishing at the rim through traffic. Flashes the ability to shoot it on occasion. Solid wing rebounder. Top 50 type talent nationally.
PF Raekwon Drake (Kevon Looney Rebels 16U)
We didn’t get to see much of Drake’s game, but every time we looked over on the next court Drake was making a play. The undersized power forward was a beast using his athleticism and physicality attacking the rim. He had one drive in transition where he did a 360 degree spin and finished with a finger roll. Also got on the glass and even hit a three. Finished with 20 points.
PG Nolan Niego (Chicago Lockdown 15U)
The Lyons Township 2019 point guard had to be a coach on the floor in every sense of the word on early Friday morning. Niego lead his troops to a huge morning victory. The younger brother of Harrison and Connor plays with the same competitive fire and spirit of his older brothers. Nolan is a sound perimeter shooter that can knock them down with regularity especially spotting up. Good shooter off the dribble as well. You have to like how Niego runs his team and gets everyone involved. High IQ and makes crisp passes. Defensively he has the mindset to get up into his man and guard them hard. Niego had 17 points in the win.
SG Mitch Mascari (Illinois Stars 15U)
The 6’3” Geneva shooting guard was a standout last week in Milwaukee and it continues. He is a smooth wing with slick handles. Can score with ease and almost makes it look easy. Moves well without ball to get open and can knock down a clean looking shot. Also was the spark plug that ignited the 16U in a comeback at night with his energy and intensity.
SF Evan Taylor (Kevon Looney Rebels 15U)
The 6’5” Glenbard West product jumped on our radar with his play on Friday. Taylor is a left handed wing that excels getting on the offensive glass for put backs. Makes quick moves in the paint to score. Fan of the energy and tenacity that he brings to the table as a young prospect. Once he rounds out his offensive perimeter game he could be a very nice prospect.
