Louisiana Grassroots Team of the Year
Louisiana Elite parlayed a good Spring into a very solid July with a good showing at the Under Armour Association Finals and in Miami Summer Showcase. After a 9-3 showing in the UAA despite a few injuries, LA Elite got a shot the UAA title before another injury derailed them.
Josh Anderson (6’5 SG, Madison Prep, 2017) led the way in 12 UAA league games with 15.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals a game. His rise this summer was one of the biggest in the state. He left little doubt his place in the state and nation after rising into the top 50 and beyond across the board.
Cedric Russell (6’2 G, Peabody, 2017) was the knock down shooter hitting 26 of 59 3s for LA Elite. He averaged 11.9 points, 3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists on the year. Greg Williams (6’3 G, Lafayette Christian, 2018) had a massive July after putting up 6 points and 3.5 rebound a game in the regular season. He can fill a stat sheet up otherwise.
Down low, Josh Leblanc (6’6 F, Madison Prep 2018) battled injuries but when healthy was the most efficient scorer in the UAA while putting up 9.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.1 blocks. He shot 81% from the field. Larry Owens (6’8 F/C, Carroll, 2017) was a steady presence down low with 7.8 points and 5.6 rebounds while being the big body defending other bigs.
Later additions Quentin Scott (6’6 F, Ellender, 2016) and Jay Head (6’7 F, Ouachita, 2017) provided athletic forwards to battle down low. Both are capable of highlight reel dunks and extremely active defenders.
Jamel Robinson (6’2 G, Madison Prep, 2017) and Jordan Foster (6’9 F/C, Comeaux, 2017) brought end of the bench toughness and defense. Both players excel on the defensive end and never back down.
