Tommy Robinson III 6’7″ Rainmakers Premier (Saxony Lutheran): A robust post player who goes at about 300 pounds, Robinson was one of the more pleasant surprises of the weekend for me. The big’un really knew how to operate his way around the low post with his size and mobility. When he established his position down low, forget about moving him off his spot. He has a nice set of hands to catch and the ball and he finished well around the hoop. He also did a nice job on the boards, especially on the offensive end with several put-backs. Look forward to seeing his continued development.
Devin Drew 6’2″ KC Elite (Raytown): One of the smaller forwards in the tournament, Drew played much bigger than his actual size and was very productive throughout the weekend. His athleticism and aggressive play combined with a high motor enabled him to be quite dominant during some stretches. He simply outworked people with his constant activity as he produced several double-doubles.
Bol Tong 6’6″ Next Level Elite Blue 17U (Winnetonka): A long athletic forward who played the Stretch 4 role quite well during the weekend. He did not spend a lot of time in the low post offensively, but he provided excellent 3-point shooting off the catch. He was very comfortable stepping out and shooting from long distance. His height and length made him a factor on the defensive end with his ability to rebound and block shots.
Henry Gladson 6’5″ St. Louis Prospects (Chaminade): The big bodied post put in good work in the paint throughout the weekend. Gladson is a legitimate offensive threat in the post with his ability to get position, good moves and nice shooting touch. He displayed a pretty good command of the low post, yet he is an excellent shooter off the catch from 15-17 feet. I like the way he rebounded as well.
Jak Kitchens 6’6″ Missouri Hustle (New Bloomfield): He joined the Hustle for this tournament and played a big role in helping them advance to the Sweet 16 of the 17U tournament. On a team with four guards, he provided some solid inside scoring while also stepping out and knocking down 3-pointers off the pick and pop. He also had a defensive presence with some timely blocked shots. Showed some toughness in the paint.
Zach Bond 6’7″ Missouri Combat (Eugene): Young post player who is still relatively new to the game, but has improved our the course of the summer. His mobility and athleticism enabled him to be a factor on the boards throughout the summer. The big improvement came on offense where I watched him develop a nice turnaround jumper in the lane and a soft shooting touch facing the basket. He has a sizable upside.
