July brings ample opportunity to perform in front of a plethora of coaches and that remains true for some prospects in Louisiana that are in need of eyes or on the cusps of drawing offers from new levels.
Tyrece Radford (6’1 PG, Louisiana Elite) – Radford was a terror throughout the spring while leading LA Elite to a lofty position in the UAA. He filled the stat sheet up while averaging 17 ppg. As a lefty, he’s already tough to defend but his explosiveness makes occurrences in the lane very common.
Devaughn Thomas (6’5 G/F, Elfrid Payton Elite) – Thomas’ has become more and more aggressive each time he steps on the court and that will go a long way. He’s got the skill set to play anywhere on the court and can defend most players as well. This July will be big for him putting it all together.
Braylon Chaisson (6’4 F, 6th Man) – This is about the time last year Chaisson burst onto the scene with some big games and his development has been consistent when it comes to the transition to the wing. He’s got the athleticism to play out there and the skillset is coming together nicely.
Marquie Mosley (6’1 SG, Louisiana Lightning) – Mosley had a monster June for Ellender when it came to scoring the ball and he’ll be looking to continue that in July in front of the coaches. The thin SG can score from any level and continues improve how consistent he is.
Dwight Simon (6’8 PF/C, Louisiana Elite) – Simon missed some time in June with a broken nose but will look to bounce back in July for LA Elite. He does a great job of manning the middle on the defensive end and has plenty of touch around the rim. Strong big man who’s still growing.
Spencer Mays (6’3 G, YGLA) – Mays’ older brother is back in town but on the campus of LSU now. Spencer is long and a very high IQ player who lives in passing lanes on the defensive end with that length. On offense he is plenty capable of knocking down shots but has a knack for getting others involved as well.
Corey Johnson (6’1 PG, Louisiana Lightning) – Johnson was impressive in the Spring with his ability to run the show as a lead guard. Likely needs to be more aggressive with the ball in his hands for the Lightning to be at their best but he’s everything you’d want from a PG.
Semaj Matthews (6’6 PF, New Orleans Elite) – Matthews has split time between playing up and playing in his correct class. He’s very skilled from the high post and in with great lower body strength to hold his place on the block on either end. Athleticism is coming and will be welcomed.
Chandler Owenby (6’8 PF/C, Texas Elite) – Owenby has been on a tour of college campuses lately and all the tools to be an extremely talented big man. He’s athletic, can stretch the floor, and has the toughness needed to battle inside. He’ll be asked to do a lot more for St. Paul’s this coming fall.
Farontay Banks (6’0 PG, Elfrid Payton Elite) – Banks is the HS and AAU teammate of Devaughn Thomas and they make a scary duo (they aren’t alone). Banks is hyper athletic and not afraid to let it fly from anywhere on the court. When he sits down in front of a ball handler, there is little his opponent can do.
