Formerly Michigan’s 21st-ranked 2017, Weems was pursued by several high school coaches around the country, and after visiting the Las Vegas school he decided it’s where he wanted to end up.
“I haven’t really made a big announcement or anything, but next year I won’t be playing basketball in Michigan, but I’ll be playing in Las Vegas. I think I’ll be picking up more West Coast interest and offers next year,” said Weems, who said the decision to move was largely based upon his lack of existing offers.
“It has to do with me not having any offers, and I wasn’t being pushed at my high school in Michigan. And I think I’ll be pushed by my coach as Coronado. I actually have an aunt a couple uncles that live there in Las Vegas, and my mom is probably moving down with me.”
The talented big-mas was playing with Greenwood Elite during the spring, but says he’s been contacted by some grassroots coaches in Las Vegas about playing his 17U summer there.
“I’ve gotten a couple calls from some AAU coaches down there, and I might play with one of them for the July live periods,” said Weems, who went on to mention which college programs had been recruiting him while he was still in Michigan.
“I’ve been talking to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wright State, Northern Kentucky. And I was talking to Detroit before their coach got fired. And Xavier and Purdue send me lots of mail.”
“Milwaukee calls me constantly and we text all the time, so I think they could be the first to offer.”
