Continue ReadingNate Watson, a 6-foot-9 post for Bishop O’Connell and DC Premier, has been among the biggest stock risers nationally at his position this spring and summer. The traditional, bruising big man has been on display this week in Charlottesville at the NBPA Top 100 Camp. As he considers his options for the next level, Watson has recently narrowed down his list. He’s been in close contact with the University of North Carolina, who might offer him a scholarship soon.
“Wake Forest, NC State, Kansas, Maryland, Miami, Providence, Xavier and UNC if they offer. They’re heavily interested,” Nate said about the list of schools he’s seriously considering. “I’m taking an official visit to Miami in August.”
On the first day at top 100, Watson’s impact on both ends of the court was evident. He looked confident from mid range, and demonstrated one of his more underrated qualities as a face up big man. He ran the floor, crashed the glass, and finished consistently in the paint through traffic.
“I think I played pretty well. I took a couple of mid range shots and I made them,” Watson said about his performances on day 1 at NBPA Top 100 Camp. “People don’t think I can face up, but I proved that I can face up a lot and attack the basket and sometimes dunk.”
One of the most improved aspects of Nate’s game has to be his jumper. He’s been consistent from the mid range areas, showcasing a soft and confident touch. Several programs across the country are sure to track him closely during the July live period.
