During the 2015/2016 season there were quite a few players that came up with some big time scoring performances as well as highlight plays that made fans go crazy. However I’m not sure that there were too many players that did both of those things during the same game as much as Jordan Ratliffe did this season. Jordan is a 5’10 combo guard that can flat out score the ball but also has unbelievable athleticism for a player at his height. He understands angles and how to create separation to get his shot off at any given moment and uses his athletic ability when he shoots so that’s it’s difficult to block his shot. Most importantly he is an extremely hard worker and a very respectful and humble young man that coaches at the next level will love to have as a part of their program on and off the court.
What makes him special?
To keep it plain and simple this young man is a scoring machine, once he gets it going he is very difficult to stop regardless of who is defending him. He has outstanding lift on his shot and doesn’t release until he’s at the top of his shot which is exactly what is needed when you are somewhat of a shorter guard. He has a very strong frame that he uses in different situations to finishes through contact very well which leads to quite a few ‘‘And one’’ plays for him. His athleticism is probably what catches the eye of many people the moment they see him, he had countless play this season with put back dunks or finishing above the rim over much taller defenders. The athleticism and scoring ability are impressive without a doubt but what impressed me the most about this young man is his work ethic and attitude. Jordan is constantly in the gym and in the weight room working on his body and perfecting his craft and seems to be like a very coachable young man. You can tell that he’s genuinely happy for his teammates and gets excited for them when they do well, although he can fill up a stat sheet his main objective is always to win games. That was proven with him playing a huge role in helping Village Christian capture their first NCISAA 2A state championship this season. There is no doubt in my mind that whatever program is fortunate enough to get this young man, will be pleased with his performance on the court, in the classroom and in the community.
Village Christian Coach Kurt Darden ”Jordan is probably the hardest working player that I have coached, he’s a very hard worker and brings it every day in practice. Just about every time we run sprints in practice he finishes first, he’s also a very unselfish player, throughout the season he could’ve averaged more points but he sacrificed his stats for the team. In the classroom he’s a great student, very respectful to the teachers and staff and gets very good grades. ”
