Pair of PVI Guards Pull Offers from the Patriots
Coming off of a state runner-up finish this year, PVI of Fairfax stayed local to camp at George Mason, and several of their younger guards stood out.
Brandon Slater – 6’6’’ Wing – Class of 2018 – Paul VI – Team Takeover
Slater was dynamic throughout the camp. He was explosive, finishing above the rim in transition, used his length to be disruptive defensively, and made shots from the perimeter. His ball skills are improving as he displayed good decision making with the ball in his hands. Slater pulled an offer from George Mason after camp, to go along with offers from others such as West Virginia, Louisville, Miami, USC, Maryland, Virginia Tech and more.
Anthony Harris – 6’2’’ PG – Class of 2019 – PVI – Team Takeover
Harris has a maturity to his game that most players his age don’t have yet. He did a great job of getting downhill, putting pressure on the defense and making the correct play. Harris plays at his own pace, putting constant pressure on the defense with his aggressive play. He is shifty, strong, and really gets after it defensively. The 6’2’’ PG received an offer from Mason after camp, his second.
LC Bird Bigs Standout
Several big men from LC Bird were very productive at camp.
Jyles Webster – 6’6’’ PF – Class of 2017 – LC Bird – River City Reign
Webster has always played with a high motor, rebounding, defending and competing on the defensive end to help his team win games. However, he has shown a big improvement in his skill set offensively. The active big who helped lead LC Bird to the 5A State Title game produced a double double in all three of his team’s games. He finished around the rim with both hands, was active on the glass and did an excellent job of running the floor.
Tyrek Williams – 6’7’’ PF – Class of 2018 – LC Bird – River City Reign
Williams is a name to know, After sitting out the majority of this past year due to injury, look for his return to be welcomed at LC Bird. Williams is a long, strong power forward who does a great job of carving out space in the lane. He finishes well around the rim, can play with his back to the basket or in face up situations. Williams rebounds at a high level and displayed good passing ability out of the high post.
Point Guards Who Run the Show
Take a look at several point guards who did a great job of managing their teams.
James West IV – 6’1’’ PG – Freedom – BWSL WAWG
West did a good job of putting people in the right spots for Freedom. He handled the ball well, made good decisions, and handled pressure. West is a good shooter, both off the dribble and off the catch with range that extends well past the three point line. He has good length for a lead guard and can score it in multiple ways.
Pinky Wiley – 5’11’’ PG – LC Bird – Team Loaded VA
Wiley is a true extension of the coach on the floor. He is constantly directing traffic, moving pieces and running the show. He has a unique ability to manage to games from the point guard spot by controlling the tempo of play. Wiley plays at his own pace, works a ball screen well and has excellent vision. In the two games he played, he did a great job of finding shooters, feeding his bigs and putting his teammates in spots to be successful.
Evan Buckley – 6’0’’ PG – Class of 2019 – Stonebridge – Team Loaded VA
For a rising sophomore, Buckley plays poised beyond his years. He does a good job of making the right play at the right time. Buckley managed his team at camp over the course of the day He got paint touches, finished in the paint, and made shots. He has a good IQ and good vision and will be fun track moving forward.
