There is obvious high major talent at the top, loads of athletes (some of which will play other sports), and loads of talented players just scratching the surface of what they will end up being. Oddly enough, there are no top 10 prospects in the class currently committed after two de-commitments came around the same time and only one committed player altogether.
Those two are top ranked Mitchell Robinson (6’11 PF/C, Chalmette) who continues to climb national rankings and resides near the top 10 in most updated rankings 5th ranked Cedric Russell (6’3 G, Peabody) who has used the summer to prove how well he can play on or off the ball. Both de-committed from SEC schools, Robinson from Texas A&M and Russell from LSU.
The rest of the top five belongs to three completely different wings who share a common struggle that could take them to the next level, perimeter shooting. Brandon Rachal (6’6 SF, Natchitoches Central) is a lock down defender, Josh Anderson (6’5 SG, Madison Prep) is a slashing wing who scares at a high level, and Galen Alexander (6’6 F, Lafayette Christian) is an elite athlete that scares any opposing coach in transition.
After the top five you get a mix of bigs, swing forwards, and even a couple true point guards who will run the show. One of which is the lone committed prospect in UNO commit Lamont Berzat (5’8 PG, Landry-Walker). His defense and ability to run a team on both ends continues to impress onlookers.
Numerous players will be highlighted in future articles showing who made a jump recently or who is a sleeper in the class still but with the July period looming there is still plenty of time for players to make a mark on this class and as usual, make the decision to walk away from basketball to pursue another sport like Mississippi State QB commit Keytaon Thompson (6’5 F, Landry-Walker) who will enroll early.
