Elite on Top
Joe Wieskamp was identified very early on by us — and the Hawkeyes — as an elite player in the 2018 class. Soon after, national publications started taking notice, and now he’s on the radar of just about every scout and program in the country. Now, after an unbelievable performance at the state tournament in March, and a scorching start to his spring with the Iowa Barnstormers, Cedar Falls point guard AJ Green is another who is starting to generate some major buzz — not just here in Iowa, but around the Midwest. With Weiskamp continuing to improve and impress, and Green darting up prospect charts around the region, it looks like this class will have two superstar players, rather than just the one.
Point Guard Prowess
We’ve already mentioned AJ Green (No.2) as a prospect who is commanding not just state-wide attention, but regional attention too — he’s a superstar. But he’s not the only point guard who is showing out this offseason. Cedar Rapids Washington point guard Hunter Strait (No.5) has been dazzling each and every time we’ve see him. Dowling Catholic point guard Sam Ingoli (No.3) continues to impress with his size and vision. Mount Pleasant point guard Brady Sartorius (No.9) is a steady hand for the Barnstormers. And Norwalk point guard Luke Vaske (No.7) is one of the best players on an elite Martin Brothers squad. Not to mention recent state champion Matthew Mims (No.11), the Xavier point guard recently picked up his first D1 offer from North Dakota. There is plenty of elite point guard talent in this class.
