It makes teams create mismatches in new ways and also helps to add offense to a position on the floor that was mostly hindered by the ability to get low post touches. Now, guys like Wyatt Hughes have become a little more valuable.
Hughes, a 6’8 forward from Maconaquah (IN), has his second offer in hand heading into June of his senior year. Toledo offered last year early and now Air Force has decided to join the fray. There is a difference here with Air Force, same with any military service school, but Wyatt understands what that means.
“I do know that you serve after the four years of college,” Wyatt said of Air Force. “They play in a good conference. I like that they have been really consistent and I like the coaches.”
Hughes has other schools showing interest as well. IUPUI, Indiana Wesleyan, Loyola (MD), and Bowling Green have all kept close contact this spring. His stock has been solidified and part of that has to do with his game. Hughes is a big forward who has the ability to shoot the ball from most anywhere on the court. However, he will have to work on his body a bit to add in some other elements to compliment his game.
“Not bad,” Wyatt said of his spring. “These last couple games have been better. They want to see me in a little bit better shape and have a go-to post move. They like that I can shoot outside and can go inside too. Work on my quickness. I’ve been training and it seems to be helping out. They like my passing as a big guy.”
Hughes has a lot going for him and as he continues to focus in on his body, driving, and low post scoring, his stock is only going to go up. The 6’8 forward has a lot of what teams are looking for this year.
