He plays both soccer and basketball, but says he’s open to play either in college, and he prefers to be recruited by smaller colleges. Which is what he’s heard from so far.
“I’ve heard from a few coaches here in Iowa, like Grand View and Luther. Other than that I haven’t heard much. We were at Battle at the Lakes last weekend in Minnesota and I had another coach contact me – I’m not for sure his name, some school in Minnesota,” said Miller.
“I play both soccer and basketball, and I’m hoping for one opportunity or the other. Right now I’m looking to go to a small school, I’m not a big school type person. So right now I’m just waiting for the opportunity, and I’m indifferent between which sport I play in college.’
Size and length are most striking about the 2017 prospect, and he says he’s able to play inside and out.
“I think my strengths are getting it out on the wing and then attacking people off the dribble. And then just using my speed, for a taller guy I’m really fast for my size,” said Miller, who averaged 6.3 points and team-high 7.3 rebounds last season for the J-Hawks.
This spring and summer the rangy prospect is running woth Iowa Cornsharks 17U, and says he’s keying in on his rebounding and ball-handling.
“Rebounding is big, especially for my Urbandale team, we’ll need a lot of rebounds next year. So I’ve been trying to get a lot of rebounds, both defensive and offensive. And then also just getting my ball-handling down, that way I can take more players on.”
With its two leading scorers gone from last season, it will be up to Miller to pick up the slack next season with the J-Hawks.
“My role was mainly to rebound and play defense last season,” said Miller. “Next year I’ll have a bigger role scoring, especially on the offensive end.”
