Thomas Faber is a good-sized 6-foot-2 point guard with sharp handles and deep range, who finds his teammates well, and defends.
And though it may be a little while before he’s able to showcase himself with the Maroons’ varsity — Sam Ingoli and Joey Kern are both back next season — he is certainly doing a nice job this spring with All Iowa Attack Red 15U.
It won’t be too long before college coaches take notice too.
“I haven’t seen anything yet for recruitment,” said Faber. “But yeah, hopefully it will come.”
His elite skill-set was on full display last weekend as he catalyzed his team to a 15U title at the Midwest Cup in Ames, and he defined his playing style to PHI.
“I feel like I do a good job finding guys when they’re open, knocking down 3s and penetrating and trying to get to the line. And playing good D too,” said Faber.
“I’m definitely trying to work on my handles a little more though, I feel like I can get more space in between guys. And my defense too, and just getting a better shot.”
Last season the top-20 2019 played with the Dowling freshman squad, and he says it’s likely that he’ll play with the sophomore team next winter.
“I think my future is going to be good at Dowling, I’ll probably be playing sophomore this year. I’ll be working out this summer with varsity, but I’ll probably play on sophomore,” said Faber, who talked about what it’s like playing behind such great talent.
“It’s fun because you know you’re going to get better by playing those guys. And it’ll help you get recruited in the long run.”
In the meantime, he’ll continue on with his 15U team this summer, leading an ultra-talented All Iowa Attack squad.
“I think our team is pretty good. I think we execute our plays, Lefty (Moore) helps us with that,” said Faber. “And we have a few guys who can knock down shots and some guys to get boards, and I think we can defend as well.”
