Continue ReadingMichael Christmas, a class of 2019 forward out of Virginia Beach, quickly made a name for himself with the Landstown Eagles during the 2015-16 season as a result of his motor and consistent production. He opened his freshman year with a 20-point, 8 rebound performance in a 14-point victory vs. Kempsville, and carried a great deal of momentum along with him throughout the campaign. Christmas finished the season with averages of 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 assists per contest.
The 15 year old, who is listed at 6-foot-5, is a well-built player who shows promise with a solid inside-out skill set. He displays great fundamentals in the paint and strong hands as a rebounder, but can also stretch the defense with a smooth and confident perimeter touch. Having played the game since he was about 4 years old, Michael demonstrates a great feel and understanding for the game on both ends of the court. He described his ability to impact the game on multiple levels.
“I’m an all-around player,” Christmas explained. “I can shoot, I can dribble, I can do everything. My playmaking ability is underrated.”
Michael is a dedicated student in a classroom, owning an exemplary 4.0 GPA. Since last year, he’s worked very hard to improve his shot, which is perhaps the most improved part of his game. As he continues to cultivate his skills, he mentioned two areas of focus this spring and summer.
“I’m still working on improving my ball-handling, and creating my own shot,” Christmas stated.
Michael made a huge impact while playing up with Boo Williams Chiz 16U at the Hoop Group Pitt Jam Fest, as his team captured the title in their respective division. Brown University is one school who took note of his promising play. His versatility was well-noted, as he was seen guarding multiple positions and flashing a nice skill-set offensively. As he continues to develop and grow, Christmas should be considered among the top overall prospects in Virginia’s 2019 class.
