Continue ReadingKyJuan Johnson has earned himself to state championship medals as point guard of the Minot Magicians with another year to go. His 12 points, three rebounds, and 4.5 assists a game was crucial to the team’s success.
KyJuan led the team in assists, points, and steals while shooting 51 percent from the floor, 44 percent from the arc, and 72 percent from the foul line. Now Johnson is doing much of the same for the North Dakota Phenom.
“It’s going okay it’s fun I like the competition,” said Johnson. “I would like to improve my shooting and seeing the floor.
“My goals for this summer is to win a couple of tournaments and hopefully get some schools looking at me.”
Some schools are looking at Johnson regularly as they are on the sideline for each of the Phenom games. They will likely be on the sideline of his games this weekend at the Battle at the Lakes in Minneapolis which is an event that includes the top or one of the top teams in the state from Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, and North Dakota.
“KyJuan has the U of Mary offer, Minot State is showing interest, and Bemidji State has shown interest,” said Phenom coach and director Jordan Mauer. “North Dakota invited him to their elite camp as well.”
Mauer said that KyJuan continues to play at a high level, just like he did when he led Minot to another state title
“He was great in our first 2 events. Honestly I couldn’t be much happier. He is doing a nice job of making perimeter shots, which is a nice addition to his game.
He hurt his ankle in the first game on Spring Jam, and that injury showed he is probably our team’s most important player (based on the way the team played without him).
